We invest on behalf of our customers in projects in Australia and abroad to help reduce the impact of the carbon emissions generated through our energy plans.
Yarra Yarra Biodiversity Corridor
Australian native reforestation project
The Yarra Yarra Biodiversity Corridor is a high impact reforestation project that simultaneously delivers environmental, economic, social and heritage co-benefits.
Mixed species indigenous to the region are grown on degraded land in the northern wheatbelt of Southwest Australia. Revegetating the landscape with native trees and shrubs encourages wildlife to return while at the same time removing carbon from the atmosphere.
A living example of an economically viable alternative to deforestation
Rimba Raya provides alternative income streams through capacity building, investments in micro-finance, programs that provide basic necessities and access to a conservation model that does not put the developing world’s need for economic growth at odds with our collective desire to protect a fragile ecosystem.
Papua New Guinea loses an estimated 1.4 percent of its forested land each year. It is a critical region for intervention from projects, such as this one, which ends deforestation from unsustainable logging practices in the island province of New Ireland. NIHT Topaiyo REDD+ works to mitigate the effects of climate change and protect Papua New Guinea’s rich and increasingly threatened biodiversity.
