Free solar... what's the catch?

Nothing. As an electricity retailer we need to buy our electricity from somewhere. We’re not a big fan of coal so we looked for an alternative. We did the sums and were astonished to discover that if you stay with us for seven years it is cheaper for you and us if we pay for a solar system to be installed on your roof and then sell you the electricity that it generates.  That's the Blended Henry in a nut shell.  After seven years, we have earned back the install fee and can gift you that solar system for free. You win with a highly discounted electricity plan and a free solar system. We win as we get to sell you electricity from a renewable source. The environment wins all round.

Do I need to cancel my current electricity provider?

No, we’ll do this for you. All you need to do is sign up to the plan you’re interested in and we’ll take care of the rest.

Are there any additional costs that I will have to pay?

No. Once you sign up for any of our plans all you pay for is the energy you use. For the Blended Henry plan we require you to have your home and contents insurance cover the solar equipment we install in case of storms or other damage, but we have found that most of the time this won’t impact your premiums at all (please check with your insurer first).

How much will it cost me to get solar panels installed on my home?

When you sign up to the Blended Henry plan, nothing. Zero. Zilch. We pay for, install, and manage the solar panels on your roof without any upfront or close out costs. All you do is pay for the energy that you use which will be at a rate that is at least 10% less than what you are currently pay. That rate won’t change for the duration of your agreement with us. Of course, if you want to pay for your solar system up front, then we can do that too. It’s up to you.

Will solar energy provide 100% of my electricity?

No. We typically design the solar system to cover 80% of your winter energy needs. This then typically covers all your summer daytime needs. We have found this to be the most efficient design. With storage, you will be able to store energy to use overnight, but most households use enough energy overnight to exceed the capacity of any home sized battery. But, we’ll also be providing you with retail energy, so you’ll always have the energy when you need it (although under severe conditions – like storms or very hot periods – there may be brief interruptions to your power as the national energy grid manages energy flow across the system).

If I get solar installed by you am I eligible for any rebates from the Australian government if I switch to solar energy?

In some states and territories, when you install solar panels and batteries on your property, you can access rebates from the government. These are called small scale technology certificates and are typically offered as a point of sale discount by a solar installer. Radian treats these certificates the same way which allows us to offer the Blended Henry at such a competitive rate.

What plan is right for me?

Well, it’s up to you, but here is a guide. If you don’t have a solar system then either the Grid to Go or the Blended Henry are options. The Grid to Go is just electricity from the power lines. The Blended Henry is the plan that comes with a free solar system. If you do have a solar system on your house then the Solar Saver plan, which includes a great feed-in tariff rate, might be a good plan for you. Any questions reach out over email or give our team a call to help you pick the plan that is right for you.

What’s the quality of the equipment Radian uses?

We only use market leading tier 1 high efficiency panels, batteries, and inverters and backed with warranties that cover you well beyond the term of your PPA with us (all panels will come with 25 year manufacturer warranties and 10 year installer warranties and batteries come with 10 year manufacturer warranties and come with a 20 year service life). Our business relies on the equipment we install so we will only install the best equipment.

What happens if my property gets damaged during installation?

When installing solar, just as in life, accidents can happen. Radian uses an experienced and CEC qualified install team and we would rarely damage a customer’s property. However, if we do, we have comprehensive insurances to cover any mishap that might happen.

What happens if I move?

It depends on what 'move' is. If you just move out of your house and start renting the property to someone else, you may choose to keep your energy product and charge your tenant for the energy they use. It becomes another way for you to make money on your property. If you sell your property, you can either buy out the remaining contract or you can liaise with the person purchasing the property and see if they want to take it over. As always, we’ll be there to help you through all of it.

What if I want a different system or different equipment?

We work through and design the system with you. Sometimes this means changing the details of the product or the type of equipment we use. Ultimately we’re here to design the more efficient and productive system that works for you.

Energy Pricing by Postal Code

The energy network in Australia charges different prices from postcode to postcode.
Our charge for electricity doesn’t change but the amount that we have to pay to get the power to you does.
In other words, electricity poles and wires cost more in some areas than others and so our rates vary.
